CASE STUDY: NEW TEACHER CENTER

 

The New Teacher Center is a nonprofit organization devoted to helping educators improve their practice and to creating inclusive, equitable learning environments for all students.

Since 2021 Room 3 has partnered with NTC to develop its Direct-To-Educator (DTE) multimedia eLearning program. The DTE content includes 300+ videos covering topics as varied as Multilingual Learners, Equity for All, Responsive Relationships, and Early Learning. The videos feature MasterClass-style interviews with leading authors and education experts, as well as custom animated scenes to illustrate key points, introduce learning aids, and enhance storytelling.

We have also worked with NTC leadership on high-value marketing videos announcing the organization’s new mission statement, The Elephant in the (Class)room, and profiling districts, schools, and educators who exemplify NTC’s guiding principles.

 

HERE’S (SOME OF) WHAT WE’VE CREATED:


CAMINO NUEVO CHARTER ACADEMY

In 2023, as part of NTC’s Profiles in Practice initiative, we created a series of video profiles of districts, schools, and educators who live into NTC’s new mission statement, dubbed The Elephant in the (Class)room. This video, profiling Camino Nuevo Charter Academy in Los Angeles, features interviews in both English and Spanish.


THE ELEPHANT IN THE (CLASS)ROOM

Room 3 collaborated with NTC leadership to produce The Elephant in the (Class)room, a 14-minute mini-documentary piece on the creation of NTC’s new mission statement on equity in education. This sizzle cut was created for social media promotion ahead of the mission statement’s launch.


2022 NTC RETREAT RECAP

Room 3 traveled to Chicago in September 2022 to document NTC’s national retreat, the first time all members of the organization had come together in person since 2019. We created this recap video of the conference featuring multiple NTCers discussing one of the retreat’s major themes: the need to disrupt the current educational system in order to create more equitable schools.


EQUITY VS. EQUALITY

Shot in Los Angeles in May 2022, this video lesson features NTC’s Chief Program Officer, Atyani Howard, explaining the distinction between equity and equality as applied to the needs of students.


MULTILINGUAL CLASSROOM CULTURE

Educator Efraín Tovar talks about the gradual process of “treaching” (teaching + reaching) one of his newcomer middle school students who immigrated from Yemen. Shot in Tovar’s classroom in Selma, CA outside of Fresno, April 2022.


ANALYZING LANGUAGE DEMANDS

This audio scenario takes learners through a sample lesson-planning exercise, showing how educators might prepare for a unit in which students learn to use language about animal defense mechanisms. The video features animated text-based learning aids.
