CASE STUDY: THE PUBLIC THEATER

As one of the longest-running nonprofit theaters in the country, The Public Theater believes that art and culture belong to everyone. For over 60 years, The Public has been a staple of the New York City theater scene – most notably through its open-air Free Shakespeare in the Park shows in Central Park’s Delacorte Theater.

In 2023, Room 3 began collaborating with The Public to create videos that provide sneak peeks of upcoming plays, promote the creative minds behind productions, and explain how people can get tickets.

HERE’S (SOME OF) WHAT WE’VE CREATED:

5 WAYS TO ACCESS FREE TICKETS

Shot on location throughout Manhattan, this scripted informational piece breaks down how theatergoers can access free tickets to a Public Theater production of Shakespeare in the Park.

A DAY IN THE PARK WITH ALYSSA WRAY!

Starring American Idol top-10 finalist and performing artist Alyssa Wray, this upbeat video takes viewers on a tour of Central Park and offers suggestions on how to spend the day in the park before The Public’s free showing of Shakespeare in the Park.

PUBLIC WORKS BUILDS A BETTER WORLD THROUGH THEATER

While The Public Theater has garnered countless awards for its work, it has also made a conscious effort to highlight New York’s diversity. Room 3 created this video about The Public’s Public Works productions, which pair professional performers with amateur ones from across the five boroughs.

PUBLIC WORKS’ THE TEMPEST IN REHEARSALS

During the rehearsal process of Public Works’ The Tempest, Room 3 shot and assembled b-roll footage to craft a montage highlighting the talented mixture of professional and amateur performers bringing to life a modernized take on Shakespeare’s classic.

LIVE AT THE LINE

Featuring live onsite interviews before and after a production of Hamlet, we captured the energy and excitement of The Public’s Free Shakespeare in the Park series. Shot on location outside the Delacorte Theater during the day and into the night, it’s easy to see the enthusiasm and gratitude on guests’ faces as they gush over their day at the park with the Bard.
